Brexit and the union: Territorial voice, exit and re-entry strategies in Scotland and Northern Ireland after EU exit

This article examines the effects of Brexit on internal boundaries and territorial future United Kingdom (UK). Divergent preferences, coupled with process negotiating preparing for Brexit, have raised new questions about ability UK to remain united. Focusing upon Scotland Northern Ireland, where challenges are most acute, draws adapts Hirschman’s voice, exit loyalty framework examine strategic choices options faced by institutional actors in each case when determining constitutional political response Brexit. The contends that, while credible threats were used bolster voice negotiations, vote subsequent exposed limitations unleashed dynamics. We enhance exploring concept re-entry, contrasting paths these territories would face re-enter European Union (EU).
